TMG'S ACTIVITIES
Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) since its inception in 1999 has carried out different projects. Below is a summary of her activities over the past years. You can also get a more detailed overview of these projects here.
THE ORGANIZATION'S PROGRAMMES AND ACTIVITIES

Civic education Forum on the theme “ Constraints, Challenges and Strategies: A New Approach to Civic Education in Nigeria”: This took place in Lagos at the Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Lagos on December 13 -14,2000.

Civic Education Forum on the theme “Enabling Environment and Constitutionalism in Nigeria”: This took place at Zodiac Hotel, Enugu on 7-8, 2001.

Civic Education Forum / Training Workshop on “Combating Election –Related Violence: The Role of Civil Society “: This took place in Abuja at the Rock view Hotel, Abuja from July 15-19, 2001.

Weekend Workshop on the theme “ Towards Securing Transitional Justice: The Imperative of Legal and Institutional Reforms “: This took place in Abuja, at the Chelsea Hotel from July28-29,2001.

Capacity Building Workshop for civil society Workers. This took place in Ijebu Ode at the Gateway International Hotel from 7-12January,2002.

Strategic Planning Workshop of the Transition Monitoring Group. This took place in Abuja at the Dayspring Hotel from 15-16February 2002.

Capacity Building Workshop for civil society workers. This took place in Kaduna at the Hallal Fountain Hotel from 19-23 February 2002.

Civic Education Forum / Conference on “Early Warning Mechanisms in Conflict Management for the state and civil society: Implications for electoral process”: This took place in Abuja from March 5 to 8, 2002.

Train the trainers’ workshop for observers of the forthcoming voters registration exercise. This took place in Lagos at Mainland Hotel [26-29 June 2002], Abuja at Ibro Hotel [ 27-30 June 2002], Port Harcourt at The Meeting Place [1-4 July 2002], and Kaduna at National Teachers Institute [2-5 July2002].

The step down training for 4,000 Observers of the Voter Registration Exercise is already scheduled for between 11-13 July 2002 in all the 36 states and the federal capital territory Abuja.

-

Media campaign for voter registration exercise 12th- 21st September 2002. Funded members of the PACE consortium (Law group / Cedpa).

-

Deployed 4,000 observers to monitor the voter registration exercise in each state of the federation including Abuja.

-

Training of 16 Partner civil society organizations on effective project management / design of uniform content of voter education projects, 18th- 19th December 2002.

-

Methodology workshop to design content of election observation manual, 24th-25th January 2003.

-

Training of 54 partner civil society organizations on effective project management and design of uniform content for voter education projects, held in Excellence Hotel Ogba on the 5th-6th February 2003.

 

Organization of master trainers workshops in each of the six geo-political zones:

South west/ north west zone- 5th-8th march 2003.

  *

South east / north central- 10th -13th March 2003.

  *

South south/ north east zone- 17th – 20th March 2003.

Organization of step down training in each state of the federation to train 10,009 observers, from the 31st of March 2003-8th April 2003.

-

Training of TMG State coordinators on effective election observation management held on 26th February – 1st March 2003 held in Women Development Center Ogba Lagos and another to finalize plans for election day communication system and review of the step down training, held on the 9th- 10th of April 2003.

-

Two Training Workshops for Civil Society Groups on Strategies for Advocating to INEC, CSO’s and the Public on the Continuous Voter Registration in Nigeria held in Lagos on the 4th of December and in Kano on the 12th of December 2003.

-

Deployed 4,804 observers in 33 states and Abuja during the local government 2004 elections held on the 27th of March 2004 and produced a comprehensive report on the processes leading up to and conduct of the elections.

Trained 74 local government election petition observers in Enugu 7th May 2004 and Abuja in 21st May 2004.
